How Canopy Service Partners runs its tree care companies on one system

After a year-long selection process, Canopy brought its tree care companies onto ArboStar. Head office and the local offices now share one set of records, with full data visibility and reporting across the group.

“Still very pleased with our decision. ArboStar has been a great partner so far and I am confident that they are the best in the space for what we need.”

The situation

Canopy brings local tree care companies into one family and lets each keep its own name and its own customers. Its companies work in California, Georgia, Alabama, Virginia, Massachusetts, Minnesota and New Jersey, among other places.

Before ArboStar, most of its companies ran on Aspire, one on ArborGold, and two had already chosen ArboStar on their own. Neither Aspire nor ArborGold was built to run a group of tree care companies from one place. Each company had its own system, its own data and its own reports, so head office could not see the group as a whole.

02

The choice

Canopy wanted every company on the same platform, so that it could manage the whole group from one place. It spent a year on an open selection process and checked everything on the market built for multi-location tree care companies.

Canopy's leadership and its partner companies sat through a full ArboStar demo together, then came back for separate sessions with finance, marketing, HR and the plant health care team. Each checked its own workflows. The final review turned on one question: how head office would see and manage many locations inside the same system. Canopy chose ArboStar in March 2025, and the partnership was agreed the following month.

03

The rollout

Work started in early April 2025 with a 30-day plan: a dedicated ArboStar implementation team, three weeks of training per cohort, and one master template for the group, set up once and then copied and adjusted for each company. The plan standardized service lines across the companies, so that group reports would compare like with like.

The first cohort, seven companies on the West Coast, had its setup training on 14 April, with daily check-ins after it. Their historical records came across from Aspire, invoices, job photos and PDFs included, and were loaded by the start of May. The first cohort went live on 12 May 2025, four weeks after that first session. A second cohort started training the following week, with a dedicated support team on extended hours through the go-live weeks.

ArboStar has also built custom features for Canopy so that its teams can work the way they already do, rather than change their habits to fit the software.

The ArboStar team is doing an awesome job – honestly. Everyone at Canopy and each of the branches are super impressed and grateful for all the hard work and support.

What changed

Head office now has full data visibility and reporting across its offices, in one place. The group looks at the same numbers, defined the same way, while each company keeps its own customers and its own schedule.

Head office has also connected its own reporting tools to ArboStar data.

We are running 100mph on ArboStar and continue to make positive strides with the incredible support from your team … each branch is loving the improved operational capabilities.

Since go-live

In October 2025 Canopy's new chief executive finished a cross-country tour of every branch and saw ArboStar live in the field.

Canopy has since taken a reference call from another tree care company weighing the same decision.

What other groups can take from this

01

Choose the group's platform before you buy the next company, not after. Every new company then starts on the group's records and templates from day one.

02

Standardize the service lines before the first migration, then let each company keep its name and its customers. Share the records and the definitions, not the brand.

03

Run a real selection, and put the system in front of every department before you decide. A year of checking is not too long when a whole group will depend on the result.
